Elevator Pitch Challenge
October 7, 2008
Tonight I was a judge on a panel at the Central Kentucky Inventors Council showcase. We critqued for inventor/company pitches. The other judges were Deborah Clayton, Commissioner of the State Department of Commercialization and Innovation; Joe Wyse, CEO of Coldstream Labs; and Matt Winn, a VC with Chrysalis Ventures.
The presenters were given three mimutes to pitch and then the judges had two minutes to give feedback.
THe four presenters were:
Ken Rank of Food Game- an educational game to be played with kids at dinnertime to teach healthy eating habits. Looking to raise 50K for production of the first 5000 games
John Carter of John Carter Imagineering- developing a new siphon pump for use in energy production. THe technology is called Auto Siphon Technology (hard to grasp this in a three minute pitch)
Sally Davisson of Sisters of Invention-(editorial note, I did some work with SOI previously) Sally and her team have developed the HALO: Baby Seat Safety System. It is a system with a base unit placed under a child’s car seat and a key fob that parents have on their key chain and it alerts the parent or whomever that the child has been left in the seat (alerts once the key fob has been moved a pre-determined length from the car with a child in the seat) They are looking for 250K for the first 1000 units plus marketing, claim to have pre-orders for 15K.
Ed Scarbek of Trizenter- Trizenter is presentation software that allows you to have three different “slides” live on up to three screens, e.g. a powerpoint slide, website, and video or two powerpoint slides and a demo all on a screen at the same time. They need 200K for development and marketing.
The Central Kentucky Inventors council is over 80 strong and meet 1-3 times per month.
